Mary Dee Brinkman established her dance school in 1978. Through experience and dedication we hope to instill a love of dance in each student while providing them with a strong technical foundation in dance that they can enhance with creativity and passion. Proper technique and terminology are stressed in all classes and there is emphasis on individual attention for all, regardless of a student's ability or reason for studying dance.
About Mary Dee
Mary Dee is a member of Dance Masters of America, which is the oldest organization of professional dance instructors. Teachers are certified only after rigorous written and performance tests have been successfully passed. Separate certification tests are given for each type of dance.
Mary Dee is certified to teach ballet, tap, jazz and tumbling. She is also a certified aerobics and fitness instructor. She has attended both the Southern Association of Dance Masters Teacher Training Program in Memphis and the Dance Educators of America's Teacher Training Program in New York.
Mary Dee has a degree in education and is a former board member of the Louisiana State Arts Council and The New Orleans Ballet, as well as an original member of the New Orleans Saints Dance Team. She has also choreographed musicals for the Benedictine Players of SSA and for Playmakers. Among her credits are Swing Time, 42nd Street, Singin' in the Rain, Man of LaMancha, Gypsy, Anything Goes, Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie, George M, and Little Shop of Horrors.
Mary Dee's students attend numerous dance workshops throughout the year and have studied in New York at the Broadway Dance Center. They have also participated in Curtain Call's Learning on Location program in New York. The studio's competition group, Dancecrew, has won numerous awards including overall highest score in Dance Showcase USA, I Love Dance, Footloose, Stage One, Dupree, Starbound, Hollywood Vibe, New York Dance Machine, MYLA, On Tour and others. They have also performed for the New Orleans Hornets, the Three Rivers Art Festival, the Mandeville Seafood Festival and Celebration in the Oaks.
